~Charcoal Irons~

information
An iron that you use by placing glowing hot charcoal inside!
The body is crafted from heavy cast iron and features a hollow interior. By filling it with live charcoal, the heat spreads throughout the iron, allowing you to smooth out wrinkles in clothing. There are small vent holes on the top, which resemble tiny chimneys, to let out smoke and steam. Of course, you won't find any temperature control dials here! People would adjust the heat by gently fanning the vents to stoke the charcoal as they ironed. While you mostly see them in antique shops today, it is a fascinating tool packed with the ingenuity of people from the past who, even before electricity, took pride in keeping their clothes looking straight and sharp.
Widely used in households and tailor shops from the Meiji era through the early Showa era, charcoal irons were the standard before electric irons became mainstream.
