~Spinning Wheel~

information
A spinning wheel is a tool used to twist cotton fibers together and spin them into a single strand of thread.
Twisting (Spinning): By twisting loose fibers together, it gives them strength to become durable thread.
Winding: The newly made thread is then wound onto a spindle.
Mechanism: By turning a large wheel, the spindle winds the thread at a high speed. Compared to spinning completely by hand, this mechanism allows for a faster production speed and a more uniform thread thickness.
At the Furusato Hall, we have a hand-cranked spinning wheel on display. This type is operated by turning a handle with one hand, which has been the most common style in Japan since ancient times.
Today, these spinning wheels are still actively used in traditional crafts and workshops.
